OLED lighting is a new solid state lighting technology. Its glare free, light and flexible characteristics make the technology widely used in various fields. Many international factories that have already won business opportunities in the LED market also regard OLED technology as an important investment. In recent years, there have been more important gains in the process.
The hot war between OLED and LED is not only shown in the display market, but also very hot in the lighting market (Fig. 1). OLED is a surface type light source. Its spectrum is close to natural light. It has the characteristics of non glare (Non-Glaring) and light and flexible. Therefore, it is regarded as the new generation lighting technology.
OLED lighting is a high energy efficiency solid-state lighting technology, which is listed later than LED lighting. Although both OLED lighting and LED lighting also represent high energy efficiency and long service life, the cost of LED is still far below that of OLED lighting.
According to the IEK research data of the Research Institute, the global lighting market will reach US $158 billion 500 million in 2021. UBI Research's OLED lighting analysis report also shows that the global OLED lighting market was $114 million in 2016 and will grow to $1 billion 600 million in 2020, and the average annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2017 to 2025 is up to 66%; the car lighting market will grow from $3 million in 2016 to 2019. 296 million dollars, and by 2020, it will be more than $821 million, and the market will grow quite rapidly.
Despite the high cost of OLED technology in the area of display or lighting, permeability is difficult to improve. This cost difference is also difficult to be leveled out in a short time. However, due to its glare free, light and flexible characteristics, OLED lighting has attracted large international factories and governments to invest a lot of resources in R & D. The US Department of energy (DOE) predicts that OLED lighting will be in line with LED's cost, efficiency and life indicators after 2020.
OLED lighting applications will be introduced first.

However, life and reliability still need to be improved. Once the cost is reduced and the service life is extended, residential, office and outdoor can gradually start importing OLED.
No heat / ultraviolet OLED outdoor lighting has a head
The light and flexible characteristics of OLED lighting enable its application design to be more flexible and diverse, and can use relatively few materials. In addition, OLED lighting does not emit heat and UV free properties. It is very suitable for outdoor lighting (Figure 2). Ultraviolet rays from artificial sources may cause damage to human skin and may attract insects, but the OLED light source does not have ultraviolet light, so it can prevent people from being harassed by mosquitoes when they are used outdoors.
IDTechEx predicts that the OLED lighting market will grow to $2 billion 500 million in 2027. However, growth will be very slow before 2020. In particular, LED lighting has been successfully introduced into the market, and the technology, cost structure and supply chain have been greatly improved, and the huge cost gap between LED and OLED has been opened up. Although OLED lighting manufacturers such as Konica Minolta and LG have gained important technological gains in recent years, the performance gap has not been reduced too much.
Therefore, the primary challenge for OLED lighting is to make market differentiation. Many companies such as OSRAM (Osram) and PHILPS (Philips) have been successful in the field of LED lighting, and their business is growing. OLED's R & D plan is a multi-party investment strategy of these companies, and is also a way to stand out in the increasingly popular LED market.

The rear lamp market has the first opportunity
Because of the low glare and flimsy and flex features of OLED lighting, it is very suitable for the application of car lights. At present, the Audi (Audi), BMW and Mercedes-Benz car factory have also been introduced into the rear light of the car with OLED.
